Frontline Security Officers - the heartbeat of our security sector

Last week, alongside Security Industry Association (SIA), I carried out a frontline visit to The Pentagon Shopping Centre in Chatham and what we witnessed was nothing short of extraordinary.
A huge thank you to Tracey Scott-Fox, a leader who leads with heart, and to the officers and street ambassadors who keep that community safe every single day: know their names!
David Fuller – Security Supervisor
Kerry Yates – Street Ambassador and proud grandmother!
Simon Crocker – Street Ambassador
...and a special shoutout to Michelle Russell, the most successful Chief Executive the SIA has ever had, who attended and met with our exemplars.
In just one hour, this team dealt with more than most people realise happens on a daily basis:
Individuals under the influence of alcohol and drugs
People experiencing homelessness and domestic abuse
Racist incidents
Verbal abuse for simply doing their jobs

And through it all, they remained calm, professional, compassionate and human.
This is the unseen side of security; the constant alertness, the emotional labour, the instinct to protect. The care for strangers who may never know their names. Most will never witness this work, but it deserves to be seen, respected and valued.
This is what great security looks like; this is how you build safer communities...and truly every high street deserves street ambassadors like these. To our entire frontline security officer community across the UK - you are loved, you are cared for, and we see you.
