Community is where people are seen, supported and safe

Last week, I travelled to Durham to meet our new IPSA corporate member, HSS Hinson Security Services. Once again, I found myself emotional and proud to say so. What I witnessed stays with you.
I met three generations of women in security - a grandmother wanting to renew her SIA licence, a mother (Victoria Tiffin) who fought through a life-critical illness, and a daughter (Bethany Delaney) rising confidently through the ranks. The pride, love and respect between them is extraordinary.
I’m delighted to share that Bethany Delaney will be joining IPSA as our Frontline Ambassador. Who better to help us attract and retain the next generation of talent than those already living the values of our sector?
What moved me most was this: HSS Hinson Security Services doesn’t just protect its community - it invests in it.

I heard stories of frontline security officers saving lives through first aid, supporting vulnerable concert-goers, and helping members of the public with critical knife injuries. I also heard about security officers we tragically lost to suicide during the COVID pandemic - heartbreaking stories that must never be ignored. 💜
Instead of turning away from these realities, HSS Hinson Security Services chose action.
They created a local wellbeing centre, they funded, funded in their own time, for security professionals and the wider community. Inclusive. Accessible. Safe.
Community members told me it feels like family - a place where people truly belong, inclusive of people with both visible and hidden disabilities. I have never seen anything quite like it.
This is the power of giving back, this is leadership with heart. This is what true community looks like.
Thank you for the lives you protect, the people you uplift, and the community you help thrive.
