A meeting of key SIA and Security industry representatives present, to discuss a range of topics including the Home Office review of the SIA, and the Police and Security Initiative.

Security Systems and Alarms Inspections Board SSAIB AGM – 10 May 2018

Bob Marshall CEO CSD Global Ltd is one of our new company members and represented IPSA at the SSAIB AGM

The SAAIB AGM was almost fully attended and Bob introduced himself to all members on behalf of IPSA.

It was obvious to see from the outset that the SAAIB have gone through some considerable changes throughout recent years, some of which is driven through legislation and some through competition.

The Chairman and his team presented the 2017 accounts which were positive. One of the largest growth areas for inspections are security systems which is in line with market trends. In total income has doubled in the last 9 years and placed the SAAIB on a more secure footing going forward.

Other members of the board reported that they are shortly to release a revised security policy, NPCC and Police Scotland.

The Board reiterated that they are in line with GDPR requirements for this year and are happy with their position. The SAAIB website has undergone a significant change within the member’s area providing excellent FAQs, legislation documents etc. – https://ssaib.org/page/about-ssaib/.

The Board also presented everyone with the “THE STANDARD” the newly redesigned SSAIB magazine. Features include a view from the Chief Exec, a talk through changes to BAFE’s SP101 scheme, a section on BTs more to IP, data protection, regional meetings, lessons learnt from Grenfell, news, section on facial recognition, manned guarding and changes in the intruder alarm schemes.

The Chairman attended ProtectED Evening Reception – 19 March 2018

The ProtectED Code of Practice and accreditation scheme is the result of more than two years research, design and development by a multidisciplinary team of academics, university security services staff and external industry experts.

Development of ProtectED is supported by the ProtectED Advisory Board where IPSA is represented — a group of public and private sector experts in standards development and issues of student safety, security and wellbeing. Development of the ProtectED Code of Practice and accreditation scheme is supported by significant stakeholders in the areas of security and student wellbeing in the higher education sector. The Advisory Board generously give their time and expertise to provide oversight of ProtectED, advising on content, reviewing materials and guiding its design.

The Evening Reception was held at the House of Lords at which Lord Bilimoria, President of UK CISA, and patron Baroness Henig, awarded Founder Member status to the University of Salford, to mark the founder of the ProtectED accreditation scheme for student security, safety and well-being.

SIA Standards and Strategy Meeting – 24 April 2018

Discussions were wide ranging, including the speciality areas where Security Officers are “Blue Badged”, (e.g. Security Officer, Door Supervisor ,CCTV ) – should there be more requirements included in basic training.
